Audi A5 3.0 TDi DPF Package Deal

DPF and Custom Remap Package on an Audi A5 3.0TDi

In the workshop last week for a dpf delete, egr valve blank and custom remap an 3.0 Audi A5 tdi Quattro. After talking to his friend who had already experienced the package deal, our customer booked in to get the same done to his car.

DPF Delete

With the DPF carefully removed from the engine bay, we began the process of removing the DPF filter from the casing. With the DPF filter removed from the casing we welded it back up and refit the casing back into the engine bay. Next we fabricated a blanking plate to blank the EGR valve. With the engine bay built fully back up it was time to reprogram the ecu to prevent the car from regenerating before we headed over to the 4wd rolling road.

Custom Remap

With the Audi A5 being a true Quattro we where unable to remap the car on our 2wd rolling road so we headed over to a 4wd we have access to. With the car strapped down to the rolling road the process of reading the ecu files began. Once we have read the file we can begin to write our own file to suit the modifications. As we write the remap the car is run on the rolling road so we can monitor the fuelling etc. Once we are happy with the results of the remap we do a final few runs to see a true reflection of the power.

With the dpf package deal completed it was time for the customer to test drive the car. Having already been out in his pals Audi A5 as a passenger he thought he had an idea of what the drive would be like. How wrong could he be 😉 When he returned from the test drive he said he was amazed by how responsive the car was and how the power just kept on coming. We had not only just improved the performance but the customer will also see an improvement in fuel economy AND he had gained 3 more bhp than his pals car 🙂

The 997 GT3, was released in February 2006, it was the first generation 997 GT3, commonly now known as the 997.1 GT3. In addition to a new 415bhp 3.6 litre flat-six engine, the vehicle highlighted the “zero lift” aerodynamics, meaning the car creates only aerodynamic down force and no grip-diminishing “lift” upwards and away from the road surface. The vehicle made use of a modified, track oriented version of Porsche’s active PASM suspension making it the first of Porsche’s RS or GT3 versions to feature an electronically adjustable suspension system. The vehicle has a rated 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 193 miles per hour. Road and Track was able to achieve a 0-60 mph run in 3.8 seconds. Porsche’s official test-driver Walter Röhrl completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 42 seconds with the 997 GT3 in 2006.

Custom Remap

So now we know the background around the GT3, we can get on to the custom remap bit 🙂

As with all our remaps we always run the car on the rolling road. This not only allows us to see what power the car is making before we do anything but it also allows us to check that the car is running right in the first place. There is no point remapping a car that has issues, as a remap is not a fix and the issue would still be there just with a remap over the top. This GT3 was making good power and had no issues so we started to read the ecu file so the remap could be written. Now unlike some other tuning companies we don’t just download a file from the internet and hope for the best. All our remaps are custom written in house and they are written to suit any modifications you may have on your car. This GT3 had previously been fitted with high lift cams. So the length of time that the remap takes will vary from car to car. Luckily for us we had the pleasure of the Porsche for a few days 😉 and the sound of that engine on the rolling road was an absolute delight to our ears 😀

With the custom GT3 remap finished it was time for the final power run on the rolling road before taking it out onto the road.

Road Test

The throttle response was more defined in a graceful manner and the change in acceleration could be felt as you changed through the gears. Definitely more responsive in a refined way.

Ford Transit Connect DPF Package

Ford Transit Connect

In for the Ford Transit Connect DPF Package (dpf delete, egr valve blank and custom remap), with only 30,000 miles on the clock this van was already on it’s second dpf filter. The first one had been replaced as it had become blocked up sending the van in to limp mode (a safety mode the vehicle goes into when the ecu computer recognizes a problem in it’s logic. Once Limp Mode engages, the engine will only run at very low rpms and be barely able to move). When the same problem occurred with the second dpf filter he got in contact with us.

Diesel Particulate Filter

No one really seems to know about the diesel particulate filter until it fails on the car and although according to the manufacturers’ a passive regeneration will happen when the DPF reaches a certain temperature naturally, this doesn’t always work which can lead to all sorts of issues.

DPF Software

With the van on the ramp it was time to remove the dpf casing and the dpf filter. With the empty casing replaced the van ready for the dpf software and the custom remap. The dpf software has to be programmed into the ecu otherwise there is a chance that fuel will be thrown into the empty casing which will definitely do the van no favours. Dpf software programmed into the ecu and the van was strapped down to the rolling road.

Custom Remap

As a standard van the Transit Connect will pull 74bhp and we checked this by running the van on the rolling road before writing the custom remap. Having established that the van was now running correctly it was time to custom remap the van. With the Transit Connect remapped with gains of 30bhp it was time for the customer to test drive the van.

Although we have increased the power of the van with the custom remap, we also have improved the performance which in turn will improve the fuel consumption.

Check the Transit Connect out on the rolling road.

Fiesta Zetec S Remap – Eco Boost

Ford Fiesta Zetec – Red Edition

Fiesta Zetec S – Red Edition

Ford claim that the Ford Fiesta Zetec S is the most powerful 1.0-litre volume production car engine ever; delivering more power per litre than other sports engines, with 9-second 0-62 mph acceleration, and a top speed of 125 mph. With a dinky 1-litre EcoBoost engine, the Fiesta Zetec on paper is a healthy 138bhp.

But as with all our custom remaps we ran the car on the rolling road before doing anything to find what power the car is making. This car fitted with an induction kit produced a respectable 125bhp on the first few runs.

Time for the custom remap… As the remap is written we ran the car on the rolling road so our customer could see the progress in power and torque on our big screen. Once we are happy that the remap we run the car again to get a final power figure and then it is time to get the car off the rolling road and out for a road test.

This little car will definitely give the big boys a run for there money as it is rapid and if the smile on the customers’ face was anything to go by we did a good job 🙂

Fiesta ST Turbo Custom Remap

Fiesta ST – Street sleeper?

We received a phone call from our customer as he considering fitting a turbo kit to his Ford Fiesta ST. Knowing that the modifications he was planning to do would mean that the ecu would need tuning so he booked in for a custom remap.

With a carbon wrapped roof, rear spoiler and alloys, this ST is quite a head turner. But the real story is under the bonnet 😉
